At various times over the past few weeks, I've had conversations with people regarding the possibility of building nature trails that wander through the wooded areas of the park. I've had these same conversatiosn with the folks at KC Parks & Rec, but the general response has been that this may be a project that would have greater success if we took it on ourselves. So, based on this feedback, I asked what level of support we could expect from the city if we chose to recruit a few volunteers to help with the process of establishing a "real" trail system. I received the following response...
Simply put, this tells me that if we would like to tackle such a project, we will have some level of support and assistance from the city. There is obviously some level of planning that will need to be done, not to mention coordination with the city, so the timing of this is certainly up in the air. If you are interested in taking part in a work day (or more!) at some point later in the year, let me know.
If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please make use of the Highland View Park Discussion Group that has been established at Google Groups. (You will need a free Google account if you wish to post.)
Also, keep in mind that we are planning a community meeting for sometime after Labor Day. I do not have a specific date/time at this point, so stay tuned! |
